To look at them, you\u2019d see &#8220;Street Work&#8221;\u2014candid, raw, documentary moments from the city. But what you don&#8217;t see is the absolute wreckage it took to get them onto that wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Cost of the Wall<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last time I did a show, the math was simple and depressing: I spent $500 on high-end prints, frames, postcards, and materials. After months on the wall, I made back $200. In any other &#8220;business,&#8221; that\u2019s a failure. In the art world, you\u2019re supposed to smile and call it &#8220;exposure.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, the universe decided to test my breaking point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Shipping Disaster:<\/strong> I paid for 2-day shipping. It&#8217;s now going to take five. My &#8220;pro&#8221; lab failed the deadline, leaving me scrambling to another print shop I didn&#8217;t even want to use just to have something to show.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Tech Nightmare:<\/strong> While working on updating the website, fixing technical issues, and editing the new &#8220;Artist Cut&#8221; series\u2014all while trying to book wedding clients and improve my SEO\u2014my server went down. Instead of editing, I was a part-time sysadmin trying to keep my digital doors open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Charleston Wall:<\/strong> It&#8217;s funny; everyone talks about &#8220;community&#8221; and how we need to work together. The &#8220;all ships rise&#8221; line is a favorite. So I reached out to photographers and planners in this town. My offer? Labor, networking, looking out for one another. The response? Silence. If you aren&#8217;t already on the &#8220;preferred vendor&#8221; list (i.e., you pay kickbacks) at the plantations, you\u2019re invisible to the gatekeepers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why I\u2019m Still Here<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So why keep going? Why hemorrhage money into a system that seems designed to keep outsiders out?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the work is the only thing that\u2019s real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a city that is obsessed with &#8220;perfect&#8221; branding and pastel-colored weddings, I\u2019m interested in what\u2019s actually happening on the pavement. I\u2019m interested in the documentary edge that doesn&#8217;t need a planner&#8217;s permission to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tonight, those four prints are on the wall.
