Get the house, get the rings, get the smile, move on. For a long time, I edited for &#8220;perfection&#8221;\u2014clean whites, recovered highlights, and digital clarity. But looking back at Matt and Mei\u2019s wedding, I realized that &#8220;perfect&#8221; isn&#8217;t the same thing as &#8220;honest&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I went back into the archives to produce an Artist\u2019s Cut of this day. I stripped away the digital polish and re-processed these frames using my custom Kodak Tri-X and Ilford Ilfocolor profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn&#8217;t do this to &#8220;fix&#8221; the photos; I did it to find the soul that was hiding in the shadows. I wanted the grain to be heavy. I wanted the blacks to be deep. When I look at the Kodak Tri-X frames from this Artist&#8217;s Cut, I see a texture that feels like a physical memory. It isn&#8217;t just about the absence of color; it&#8217;s about the presence of silver-halide grit. Similarly, using Ilford Ilfocolor for the outdoor venue shots allowed the Georiga greens to soften into something more nostalgic and less clinical. By embracing these shifted tones, I\u2019m creating a gallery that feels like a core memory rather than just a digital file. I\u2019ll always provide those for my couples. But for those who want to go deeper, I\u2019m moving further into the shadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Going forward, I\u2019m leaning into the grit because life isn\u2019t clean or safe. It\u2019s grainy, it\u2019s messy, and it\u2019s beautiful for exactly those reasons. If you\u2019re looking for a photographer to follow a corporate script or a Pinterest checklist, I\u2019m not your guy.
